What time is 2 PM Mountain in Eastern?

2 PM Mountain is 4 PM Eastern. Add two hours. That holds in January, in July, during daylight saving, and during standard time. The arithmetic never changes.

What does change is who is actually on Mountain Time when the calendar says July. Phoenix is not.

The MST to EST gap in summer and winter

Mountain Standard Time runs at UTC-7. Eastern Standard Time runs at UTC-5. The two-hour spread stays locked all winter. When daylight saving begins, Mountain shifts to MDT (UTC-6) and Eastern shifts to EDT (UTC-4). The gap remains two hours.

The risk is not the math. The risk is assuming every city in the Mountain time zone follows the same clock.

Book meetings in Denver. Skip "Mountain Time" for Phoenix.

Denver, Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, Aurora, and El Paso all observe full Mountain Time with daylight saving. Calgary and Edmonton do the same. Ciudad Juárez aligns with El Paso and also springs forward and falls back. If your meeting is in any of those cities, add two hours to get Eastern Time and you are done.

Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, and Scottsdale stay on MST (UTC-7) all year. No daylight saving. In summer, Denver runs on MDT (UTC-6). Phoenix stays on MST (UTC-7). Phoenix is now one hour behind Denver.

A 2 PM meeting in Denver in July is 4 PM Eastern. A 2 PM meeting in Phoenix in July is 5 PM Eastern. Same nominal "Mountain Time," different clock reading.

When you send a calendar invite to someone in Arizona between March and November, specify "Arizona time" or "Phoenix time." Never write "Mountain Time" without a city.

When do Mountain and Eastern Time change clocks in 2026?

Both zones spring forward on Sunday 8 March 2026 at 02:00 local. Clocks move to 03:00. Both fall back on Sunday 1 November 2026 at 02:00 local, moving to 01:00.

For 2027: spring forward on 14 March, fall back on 7 November.

The US and Canada share identical DST dates. There is no window where one zone has switched and the other has not. Trouble appears only when you convert between Mountain Time and a zone outside North America. Europe changes clocks on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October. During those offset weeks, confirm each city's current offset before you schedule.

Why Phoenix ignores the MST to EST converter

Arizona exempted itself from daylight saving in 1968. Every clock in Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, and Scottsdale stays on MST (UTC-7) all year.

Here is what that does to your conversion:

  • Winter (November to March): Phoenix and Denver both run on MST. A 2 PM meeting in either city is 4 PM Eastern. No conflict.
  • Summer (March to November): Denver runs on MDT (UTC-6). Phoenix stays on MST (UTC-7). A 2 PM meeting in Denver is 4 PM Eastern. A 2 PM meeting in Phoenix is 5 PM Eastern.

The Navajo Nation, which spans parts of northeastern Arizona, observes DST and follows the Denver schedule. The Hopi Reservation, surrounded by the Navajo Nation, does not. If your call includes someone on tribal land, confirm the local rule for that specific location.

How to convert MST to EST on a specific date

Pick the city you are converting from. Enter the time and date. The converter accounts for DST automatically and flags Arizona's permanent standard time if you select a city that does not observe DST.

For conversions to other zones, see the MST converter. For exact DST switch times through 2027, see the DST dates page.
